Guest Blog: Crowfall, "Game of Thrones meets Eve Online"

Our latest guest blog has come directly from the forum! JamesGoblin posted this up and I thought it looked so good that it needed to go on the front page! If you're an MMO gamer, you'll definitely want to keep reading!

~ Floyd

This game is bit strange - you are not a human, but a crow - spirit crow that can possess bodies. After death, one doesn't just respawn, but has to fly around in crow form and seek new corpse to inhabit; This often means change of class, race and sex!?

Here is the story of the comic above: At first (pages 4,5) a knight chooses to serve Malekai, the Lord of Shadows - one of 13 gods. God grants him eternal life and other benefits, but the knight is obliged to fight and pillage in Malekai's name - this might include building and maintaining god's statues and tempes (which also cost gold and resources for taxes and maintenance).

After that (pages 1,2,3), on the 47th day of the War of the False Kings, the knight dies and the crow-spirit leaves to fly and find another body (pages 6,7). On the graveyard nearby, the crow finds the corpse of fallen champion, possesses it and walks away to fight for Malekai again.

...and they all lived happily ever after :D

The universe consists of many worlds, both persistent and fully player created and customized Eternal Kingdoms and temporary Campaigns - huge battlegrounds which are slowly (sometimes, for months) devoured by The Hunger. The end of winter marks the end of the world and death of all in it: this is how The Hunger twists Campaign's wildlife through four seasons (and here is couple more pics)

Think of it as of, say, Rome (the city, the central state) and it's distant provinces and frontiers, from which the resources and wealth are coming through pillage and conquering. Rome is persistent while frontiers/battlegrounds are moving or disappearing, BUT you want to go there for gold and materials. And not to be bored in your lovely palace.

Here's couple videos of early tests, including some typical NSFW language  These are rather PvP than RP, anyway here goes - first one shows couple Centaurs defending their keep:

...then, say, Confessor fighting for D'orion:

...and finally the aforementioned Champion tutorial:

PS Best quick intro to Crowfall is it's IGN Wiki. The game is MMORPG in alpha, with open beta (free tests) scheduled for "this winter" and it's main theme is fight for resources and territory control based on crafting, gathering, voxel building and destruction.

New Forum!

Hey there roleplayers!

The talented Rendis, designer of our site's beautiful layout, has finished the new forum! That means that we can finally start to build a real community here. The forum features a section to post your creative works, forum RP areas and various boards for discussion of RP and non-RP topics. I suggest you take a look for yourself!

We still have much more to do on the site but this is a fantastic first step. If you're interested in getting involved, now's your chance!

Halloween RP Resources

Halloween is my favorite time of the year.

For better or worse, horror and Halloween are almost synonymous in the mind of the modern individual. The original Halloween (Samhain - pronounced 'SOW-win') was not about scaring people but respecting our ancestors.

We discuss this further in our Halloween episode of Rock'n'Roleplay.

That said, scaring people is a lot of fun. So I'm going to help you scare your players today with a few useful links. Happy Halloween!

Tabletop Audio

While not scary specific, Tabletop Audio has many frightening atmospheres to use in your pen and paper games! Click 'Horror' under the banner. The artist behind the site creates a special track each year to celebrate Halloween. This year, that track is 'Nightmare'.

Scaring Your Players: Ten Tips

You might not expect the website for the creator of the game Munchkin to have insightful articles on roleplaying, but you'd be wrong. This is article is a quick, useful read for anyone preparing to scare the pants off of their PCs!

DnD Behind the Screen Thread

While this is obviously a tabletop-oriented reddit, this thread's resources can be used for any form of RP. One of the more interesting links I see on this thread are Horror.org, a rather vast website devoted entirely to horror writing. Why haven't I seen this before?!

On Writing Horror and Avoiding Clichés

While this article was linked in the reddit thread, it deserves to stand out a little more. I think taking a good long look at what has been overdone and how to get a fresh take on the traditional is useful no matter what the subject matter is.

Beksinski

Possibly one of the most immersive websites out there, Beksinski.pl is the official website of the Polish artist, Zdzislaw Beksinski. Turn your volume up and spend some time clicking through the website for inspiration. The floaty black things take you to various pages. The galleries are breathtaking; combined with the organic, breathing feel of the website and the immersive music, it's easy to get lost in them.

You may never come back.

Mr. Gone's Character Sheets

Mr. Gone makes character sheets for World of Darkness. I imagine if you're interested in horror RP you've played it or intend to play it at some point. There are also some free fonts and graphics to make your own sheets with or use otherwise.

Hope these help! Be sure to listen to the Halloween episode of RnRP!

Seeking Content Creators

Hey roleplayers!

As the homepage states, we'd like to turn this site into a kind of hub for RP. Guides, links, shows, even an enjin forum would all be fantastic! But, as you can imagine, myself (Floyd) and the other creators are busy with Rock'n'Roleplay and various other RP/media related projects. We'd like to build a team of dedicated content creators, editors, site managers and more. We aren't making any money off of this yet so we can't afford to pay anyone, but in all honesty this isn't about making money for us. We love RP and want to share it.

We know there are many out there who share our dreams.

If you'd like to help build this little pile of pages into a true city for roleplays to find everything they could need in one place, please get a hold of us by clicking contact on the top of the page!  There's a list below of some of the roles we need to fill here at Roleplay HQ but if you have a talent we didn't mention feel free to message us anyway and we can brainstorm!

  • Webpage Builder - Gotta fancy this place up! Make it look good!

  • Site Manager - Keep it nice! Update stuff! Manage content!

  • Content Creators - Entertain us!

  • Community Managers - Herd cats! Promote site! Forums!

If you're interested in any of these positions and discussing them in more detail click Contact at the top of the page or just email me directly at: thehumanfloyd@gmail.com

With your help, we can promote roleplay across the globe!

Peace and Love,

Floyd
